Teaching Philosophy

As a graduate of the Russian piano school from 1980 to 1993 and a new piano teacher from 2014 to present in the USA, I am so grateful for opportunities to learn and absorb differences in philosophies and approaches in teaching and learning Piano. Based on that eminent foundation of professional and personal knowledge, I strive to integrate and incorporate different teaching methods and styles, and personalize it specifically to students' needs and desires.
For the most success in development of keen minds and fine music intellect, I built my curriculum based on research in child development and learning theories, using a multisensory approach in early stages of study. While the curriculum encompasses all areas of pianistic education, I encourage my students to participate and collaborate in discussions of educational goals.
Technique and sight reading, aural recognition and performance practice, music theory and history, composition and improvisation are the backbone of my piano lesson plans. Not only are students assigned weekly songs and exercises, but they are also encouraged to participate in the Achievement in Music (AIM) exams sponsored by the Illinois State Music Teachers Association (ISMTA).
There is no the preferred ages and levels of students for me. Piano lessons are available to students as young as 4. Everybody will find what he/she wants to enjoy, learn, and live with. If it is a child with some learning disabilities, or the young couple who wants to invest time at each other, the senior who has been looking for new learning adventure.
Having the vision for students to become well-rounded musicians is something that I believe is hugely important as an educator, musician, clinician and writer!
